Alberta Elk Hunting Trips

Elk Hunting in Alberta, Canada

Alberta is quickly becoming popular for it's archery elk hunting. There is some great bulls here. Hunters are killing bulls all the way up to the 360-380 range. That is really something for a bow hunter. A realistic goal in this area for a bull elk would be the 250-300 range. Don't be surprised to see a 350 class bull though. There is a healthy population of elk in WMU 338. There is an extended cow elk season here in order to try to control the elk population. The 2nd week of September is when the elk start their rut. During the rut we will do some calling (bugling and cow calls). It really gets your heart pumping when those big bull elk start coming in. In October, we hunt feeding areas a little more. Setting up an ambush on a herd is going to get your blood flowing too. Calling is still effective during this time as well. Although, during the rut is the best time to call as you already know.
